We are currently seeking an experienced water and sewer installation Pipe Layer. The successful candidate will need to have experience working in narrow trenches and be able to lift and connect pipes. Responsibilities Include:

• Laying and joining concrete, HDPE and PVC pipe and fittings for drains, sewers and watermains
• Cut grade and install pipe
• Cut and bevel pipe
• Hand expose utilities
• Prepare and grade trenches manually with shovel or by working within close proximity of excavator operator
• Install manholes and pour concrete
• Perform hand signals and/or flag control as necessary
• Ensure proper bedding in place prior to backfilling
• Other duties as assigned, including attending and participating in tool box safety meetings
• Help maintain a safe work site and adhere to safe work practices and safe job procedures
• Comply with established company policies and procedures and Occupational Health and Safety regulations

 

Required Skills and Experience:

• 2+ years of experience as a Pipe Layer
• Comfortable working around hot lines
• Detailed knowledge of construction and pipe fitting techniques
• Knowledge and experience in civil earthworks construction
• Knowledge of sewer systems, storm drains, and water mains
• Experience with machine-operated trenching tools, including operation of a tapping machine
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and city maps
• Able to perform manual labour and lift heavy objects.
• Good verbal communication skills and hand signal knowledge
• Able to work as part of a team
• Ability to work long hours with some weekends and overtime in all types of outdoor environments and weather conditions
• Must have CSA approved safety boots.
