Position Summary:
The ICU Technician provides cardiac monitoring for the telemetry patient population, along with clerical and administrative duties that are essential to care services. Responsibilities include ensuring that medical records, laboratory reports and other patient records are obtained, properly completed and securely stored while being readily available to physicians, nurses and other health care providers. The ICU Technician ensures collaboration and communication with ward Nurses related to patient cardiac arrhythmias while ensuring documentation for MRP review.
The ICU Technician provides high quality, safe, effective and evidence-based care in partnership with patient and families, in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards and GGH’s mission, vision, values and policies. The ICU Technician optimizes the patient’s experience and care outcomes by:
- Being accountable for one’s decisions and professional practice;
- Establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family;
- Collaborating with other members of the patient’s care team;
- Coordinating, communicating and documenting patient care activities

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Certificate of registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario or completion of the Cardiac Technician Diploma
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Recent RPN or Cardiac Technician experience
- Coronary Care 1 or Cardiac Arrhythmia course
- ECG (Basic) arrhythmia Interpretation course
- Working knowledge of Meditech Order Entry and transcription of Physicians Orders
- Demonstrated ability to perform a 12 Lead ECG
- Demonstrated commitment to best practice, nursing standards and life-long learning
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated excellent assessment skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
