Our insurance client is currently looking for a Liability Adjuster. This role will require primarily 1 day in office in Mississauga. The other four days will be hybrid, unless other requirements arise during mediation.
Summary of Role & Responsibilities:
This role is crucial for the thorough investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of serious Commercial General Liability (CGL) and bodily injury claims. The position requires advanced claims-handling skills, as well as regular communication and coordination with various stakeholders, including internal and external vendors, clients, and involved parties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coverage Verification: Confirm the validity of coverage for each claim.
- Liability and Injury Investigation: Conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the loss, focusing on both liability and serious bodily injuries.
- Vendor Coordination: Provide clear instructions and oversight to external and internal vendors (e.g., adjusters, legal counsel, and engineers).
- Exposure Calculation and Reserves: Assess the probable ultimate exposure of each claim and adjust reserves accordingly.
- File Management: Maintain an up-to-date, proactive diary system to monitor claim files, ensuring comprehensive documentation with updated case law, medical, and liability information.
- Mentorship and Leadership: Coach and support junior adjusters, sharing best practices and guiding them through complex claim scenarios.
- Reporting and Committee Participation: Prepare Major Loss/Reinsurance Reports and actively contribute to Claims Committee discussions.
- Compliance with Best Practices: Adhere to service standards and compliance requirements, as outlined in industry best practices.
- Settlement Participation: Engage in settlement initiatives, participating in private and mandatory mediations to facilitate claim resolutions.
Requirements:
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in CGL and bodily injury claims, with strong expertise in coverage (duty to defend vs. indemnify), product liability, occupier’s liability, and environmental losses.
- Specialized Knowledge: Familiar with municipality-related losses and construction wrap-up claims is advantageous.
- Education: University or College Degree.
- Certifications: CIP designation or actively pursuing.
- Regulatory and Contractual Knowledge: Strong understanding of regulatory obligations, medical terminology, vocational rehabilitation, and dispute resolution.
- Audit Experience: Skilled in conducting and managing both internal and external audits.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous and organized, ensuring thorough documentation and file management.
- Effective Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal and Leadership Skills: Able to build relationships, work well with teams, and demonstrate potential for leadership.
- Adaptability: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer literacy.
This position requires periodic travel to participate in mediations, pre-trials, and trials - contributing significantly to claim settlements and resolutions.
